Gold-Plated

Gold-Plated

The vocabulary of jewellery is complex! We have all heard of the term gold-plated before.
But what does it mean exactly? And how does a piece of jewellery become gold-plated?

Any gold-plated jewellery refers to a piece of metal jewellery with a layer of another metal on top. You can use different metals like silver, but we use brass, which is a perfect mixture of copper and zinc. This combination guarantees not only solidity, but also a beautiful dark colour that is very close to the natural colour of gold. Furthermore, it is hypoallergenic. So people with sensitive skin can enjoy wearing our jewellery.

Gold plating is attained through the process of electroplating or electrolysis. The jewel is immersed in an electrolytic bath of liquid gold. All our jewellery is 3 micron gold-plated, which means that it has been covered with three layers of gold. Today, you can only legitimately speak in France of gold plating if these layers have been applied.

The quality of our small jewels is at the heart of L'Atelier de Solène. That is why they are guaranteed lead, nickel and cadmium free. Therefore, all our jewels are resistant to accompany you in your daily life. In the shower, at the gym, and at work, they will be your allies. And above all, you don't risk any allergies!
